This whole having a kid thing has re-awakened my desire to Create. I’m already looking forward to the days when I can sit around building cities out of cardboard boxes or making marble mazes out of household miscellany, or creating make-believe monster masks out of old newspapers with my little one. Until that time comes when s/he is old enough to hold a pair of scissors and squeeze glue out of a bottle (and when it’s not weird for me to make these things by myself), I’ve started thinking of all the things I can make FOR my little one.

A couple years ago, I experimented with embroidery. I went out, bought all the supplies (luckily embroidery is not a huge investment) and started a project. Before even finishing, I stored it away and completely forgot about it. But now that I have a whole nursery to decorate, I’ve become infatuated with walls full of embroidered cuteness (just search “nursery embroidery wall” on Google images and you’ll see what I mean). So I decided to take on a little embroidery project for our nursery.

I came up with a simple design (a cute little fox floating away with a bunch of balloons) and got to work.

And…Ta Da!

And then I thought, hey, someone might like to use this pattern for themselves. So I whipped up a little embroidery pattern with color and stitch guides and you can get it in my etsy shop for only $4.00! What a steal!

Also, I noticed that Illustration Friday’s theme is “suspend” and since I haven’t participated in a long time, I thought this imagery might work perfectly. So I expanded on the illustration a bit and am pretty happy with the result!

  1. I LOVE this. I am not crafty at all. As in I can’t even sew on a button. :-/ But I would give anything to do something like this for my youngest’s nursery. How tedious and time consuming is hand embroidery? Will I still be working on this when my 3 month old is 13???
